This is a funny story about no one following the king’s instructions correctly. They can’t hear properly because either they are hiding in a cupboard or they’re too far away!

But does anyone actually ask the bad tempered king to repeat his orders? No, of course not – so it’s hardly surprising that the story gets very silly indeed.
